So they don't really fit into the 'profound' category but heck who can argue with lyrics that are so...well, lyrical. Also, one has to admit that some of their satire of their aristocracy is as pointed today:
I grew so rich that I was sent/ By a pocket borough into Parliament/ I always voted at my party's call/ And I never thought of thinking for myself at all/ I thought so little, they rewarded me/ By making me the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
If nothing else, the Savoyards among you (a kinder name for maniacal G & S fans) will finally get to memorize the lyrics of 'I am a the very model of a modern Major General'. Now go, you slaves of duty.
